About Galatas

GALATAS

"GALATAS is a town located in the eastern part of the peninsula of the Peloponnese. It is the seat of the municipality of Troizina.

It is one of the easternmost municipalities on the peninsula and is located on a road connecting the rest of the Peloponnese: Argolis and Ligouri and Galatas and the road to Ermioni and Kranidi.

Located East of ancient Troezen, South East of Ligouri, North East of Kranidi and Ermioni and South West of Methana.

Its twin town, the island city of POROS, is only 50m away. GALATAS is a small mainland town with a new high school, medical centre, church, banks and a new sea front area (plateia) overlooking Poros Island.

GALATAS connects to the island of POROS with small boats (water taxis). In ancient times, a sump was between Galatas and Poros. Galatas also has many independent shops, some businesses and plenty of tavernas. Until the 1960s, the area was home to many goats that produced milk and cheese and gave it the name Galatas (meaning milk fields)

The area is beautiful. The mountain range Anderes overlooks the Saronic Gulf and the Athens coastline. It is fast becoming a popular place to build homes and development is higher now than that of Poros." Extracted from www.havenonearth.co.uk
